Klaipeda is the third largest city and the only port city in Lithuania. Located next to the Baltic Sea, in the Coastal Lowland at the confluence of the Curonian Lagoon and the Baltic Sea - the western part of Lithuania - it can be characterized as open, international, tolerant and lively place to live and work.
On the left bank of the Danė River is the Old Town of Klaipėda, by the Curonian Lagoon - Smeltė. On the right bank of the Danė River is the New Town (city centre); to the north of it, by the Baltic Sea - Giruliai (summer resort), and on the Curonian Spit - Smilrynė. Klaipėda is the most important industrial centre in Western Lithuania, as well as a major hub for road, rail, and sea transport.
