As part of our continued expansion in the Americas region, we are seeking a talented and motivated Packaging Engineer to join our Tuscaloosa, Alabama branch. This position offers a unique opportunity to work closely with various Motherson Group operating companies (OPCOs) and contribute directly to packaging innovation, cost reduction, and sustainability initiatives.

What you'll do

Packaging Development & Optimization

  • Design and develop packaging solutions for automotive components (plastic, metal, and electronic parts) ensuring protection, functionality, and cost efficiency.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, customers, and internal stakeholders to meet packaging specifications, quality, and safety standards.
  • Optimize existing packaging designs to reduce material costs, improve handling efficiency, and enhance sustainability.
  • Lead packaging trials, fit checks, and validation for new and existing projects.
  • Support prototype builds and production launches with proper packaging documentation and instructions

Supplier Development & Management

  • Identify, qualify, and develop a reliable network of packaging suppliers across North America (plastic, metal, corrugated, foam, dunnage, labels, etc.).
  • Sustainability & Cost Savings, Documentation & Standards, Data & Reporting

What we are looking for

  • Strong knowledge of returnable and expendable packaging design (plastic, metal, corrugated, and foam dunnage).
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA, or similar).
  • Understanding of logistics flows, warehouse operations, and packaging material costs.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities; able to collaborate across multiple teams.
  • Experience in the automotive supplier environment preferred.
